This morning you drive or fly to Dali, which is the starting point for exploring the mountains of the northwest of the province. After checking into your hotel you have the rest of the day at leisure.
Spend today exploring Dali’s old town, as well as the Three Pagodas, which overlook the town.
You have today at leisure to wander Dali’s cobbled streets and perhaps out to the lake shore by yourself.
Today you’ll drive out to the village of Shaxi. This drive will take you into the countryside, through villages and rice paddies to Shaxi. Once there you’ll have time to explore.
After more time spent in the village, you’ll drive further north today to Lijiang, stopping off at the holy Buddhist mountain of Shibaoshan on the way.
Lijiang has a very well preserved old town, and today you’ll spend the morning exploring it. In the afternoon stroll around the picturesque Black Dragon Pond.
Take a trip out of Lijiang today, to see the views from the Jade Dragon Mountain, which dominates the skyline of Lijiang. On the way back into the town, see the well preserved frescos in the small village of Baisha.
You drive on to Zhongdian today with your guide, stopping at the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge on the way, before the start of the Tibetan plain.
Today your guide will accompany you to Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in China.
